VA identity theft, arrest & solutions

September 3, 2019 by Terry Kohler

Another military connected identity theft issue just hit the news 1 August 2019. Back in 2006 I received a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs. This is almost 2 years after I enrolled in the identity theft premier program tied in with the nationwide legal plan coverage that has saved my family thousands of dollars.

This morning I wake up to news of another incident of military members information used in identity theft. After 15 years of having the best choice in complete identity theft restoration and affordable access to my rights, I am still at peace, knowing my good name is protected. Team Veteran’s recommendation and funny/serious commercials access is at the bottom of this posting.

Here’s part of the news shared at Sun Journal in NC …

The Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Justice (DOJ) notified the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) of an identity theft investigation and arrest of a former DoD Army civilian employee and his co-conspirators, related to the stealing of personal information of thousands of military and Veteran personnel. The employee took unauthorized photos from DoD Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA) electronic health records. Based on this personal information from AHLTA, these individuals created fraudulent DS Logon accounts, impersonating Veterans to gain access to their VA eBenefits and MyHealtheVet account information, accessed personal financial or banking information, and, in a minority of cases (20), redirected their VA payments. From what we understand, this theft was limited to financial information and did not include personal health information.

VA is working closely with DoD and DOJ to identify veterans who are impacted by this identity theft and will send notification letters via mail. This letter will notify those impacted that DoD will offer free credit monitoring services. Anyone who believes their personal financial information has been compromised by this identity theft should report this loss at the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) IdentityTheft.gov website.

Although this does not directly affect the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), anyone who interacts with veterans and their families may be asked about this incident. If you receive any questions from veterans and their families who are concerned about being one of the people impacted, please direct those individuals to the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) Special Issue Hotline at 1-800-749-8387 and select Option 1 to speak with a special benefits counselor.

Our team members at Team Veteran have been members of what we feel is the 800-lb gorilla for the best identity theft and legal access solutions for 9-15 years. Through our non-profit we arranged a Team Veteran member discounted rate, with no contract (they truly do earn our member’s business), and we can connect you with the URL to start your protection now.

MilSaver

MilSaver

MilSaver.com is an online shopping site featuring over 500 stores including the best-known names in retail. The site features 1000’s of coupons to help you save money while shopping online. The site was set up for the express purpose to provide funding for veteran groups and military non-profits/charities. Every purchase through the site helps! Donations are based on the number of votes each group gets through our Charity Chooser. BUT, just because you vote does not mean that we will be able to help. You MUST Shop online through MilSaver.com!

Why MilSaver.com?

MilSaver.com was created to answer the call to do more for our veterans. After 2 years of meeting with veteran groups and being a part of 3 veteran councils it became readily apparent that the groups closest to our veterans had the least amount of money to help them. The well known and well-funded national organizations are not doing enough for our veterans, so a better way to provide funding to these smaller vital veteran groups had to be found. Asking our veterans to rely on handouts, charity, grants and fundraisers I felt was ridiculous, these are our veterans and they deserve more. MilSaver.com was created to be a virtual ATM to provide funding to these groups. But, we can only do what we do with your help!

Why You Should Use MilSaver.com

Using MilSaver.com is Free. If you shop online, like to save money and support our veterans and military please shop at MilSaver.com. Tell your friends too because the more people saving money while shopping online the more veterans we can help!

How can you help?

Our history with Dr Janathin Miller (Hummingbird)

October 23, 2017 by Gordon Brown

I was introduced to Dr. Janathin Miller (CEO of Antin Engineering; Director of Training at Veterans Training Corporation) in 2010. She had decided to unleash her 36 years of DOD (Department of Defense) contracting experience to assist Veteran Owned Businesses (VOB) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSB) excel by helping me to create a Veteran Business Consortium (VBC). A concept similar to my industrial real estate development company called Consortium 44 Development. Her Dad was one of the founders of the OSS (Office of Strategic Services) during WWII which later became the CIA. He retired from the CIA and neither his wife or daughter ever knew he was a spook. The discovery of Dad’s history caused her to dedicate the rest of her life to supporting Veteran owned companies.

Dr. Miller carried a Top Secret Crypto Level 4 security clearance and taught a graduate level Entrepreneurship course at Stanford for the MBA program and at two of our planning meetings she gave three unsolicited endorsements for LegalShield. One endorsement was so strong that she said she writes DA next to a student’s name that does not understand the value as a future entrepreneur of having access to extremely inexpensive legal advice through LegalShield. She said she had used the legal plan for over 25 years and all of her charities had been created using LegalShield.

Planning meeting for Team Veteran LLC

Dr Miller “Hummingbird on Speed” is standing behind the black chair.

15 VOB and SDVOB were sitting around that table wondering if our meaning of DA was the same definition she meant. She finally broke the silence and said, “Gentlemen it stands for “Dumb Ass” and if the DA wasn’t removed before my course ended those students failed.” Her reasoning was if a future entrepreneur didn’t understand the value of having an attorney on call for a small monthly fee, then they were too stupid to be an entrepreneur and would waste the limited SBA funding.

Since the VBC would require some seed money to start and no VOB or SDVOSB was flush with cash, remembering her endorsements of LegalShield, I made a proposal to Dr. Miller. She immediately agreed and offered her Rolodex. Our offer was that we would donate one third of the revenue created through referrals and leads generated from her Rolodex to initially fund the VBC. There were several delays in creating the initial letter that Dr. Miller intended to send to her warm contacts; the delays continued when her partner was diagnosed with advanced Parkinson’s dementia. We had several false starts because of these new priorities in Dr. Miller’s life.

Once the Consortium was self-funding we would continue these donations created by Team Veteran LLC to be used for Veteran’s needs, and the seed to create Team Veteran Foundation was planted. September 13, 2012 Team Veteran Foundation, Inc a 501 (c)(3) was born. Soliciting for corporate or individual donations is extremely difficult because the vast majority of Americans do not support Veterans, 1st Responders and their families.

Dr Janathin Miller died from brain cancer November 11, 2015, the same day I had completed my 38th Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) dive to heal my Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). I had nicknamed Doc the “Hummingbird on Speed” because she was on the move 24/7 working to help Veterans and their families. The day she died I was the first to be contacted at her request to thank me for giving her the nickname which she used often to introduce herself.

Team Veteran LLC has expanded the original idea and included 1st Responders and their families. We have also increased our contribution level to over half of the commissions received from the sale of LegalShield, IDShield, employee benefits, Commercial Drivers License and SmallBiz legal plans to create a corpus to perpetually fund vetted Veteran charities. They tell us there’s alternative sustainable fundraising

September 30, 2017 by Terry Kohler

Picture this.  Team Veteran members are chatting with people, many times with those in low or high level decision making positions, that tell us there are other viable, working alternatives to creating sustainable funding, from what we are doing. TVet is still waiting for them to tell us what is working. While we wait for those solutions, let’s listen together to some gentle jam melody. Click the play button below and enjoy while you continue reading.

Team Veteran LLC has been told there are all kinds of funds out there to support [Veteran] charities. Where is it? Besides begging for money, i.e. the typical donations, and grants.  We have also been told by people they are going to reach back to us. We figure they are going to tell us about their currently working sustainable funding program or idea – still waiting!  Only the serious need to reply.  Team Veteran LLC will not be sitting around waiting for those non-serious talkers, because they don’t care about Veterans, their families or children.

Remember the kids in the movie… “Are we there yet?”

Team Veteran LLC gets contacted frequently by individuals with a request to include their business’ cause~mission~purpose on our Resources page, but they have yet to ask us about our causes~missions~purposes.  Let’s see how many ‘please add us to your Resource page’ will contact us if we start saying, “Only the serious Veteran supporters need apply”.  All they see is a Resource page on someone’s web site they hope to add their business/personal gain to.

Still waiting.

As the rest of the world waits for working sustainable funding, 22-30 Veterans a day are dying by suicide.

Team Veteran LLC is using cause marketing to create sustainable funding. Are you still waiting with us? There’s about 54 minutes of this gentle jam melody provided by Jeapordy.

USAF Vet Bottomed Out Then She Became A Shining Star

March 30, 2016 by Terry Kohler

A Life of Purpose.  What’s yours?

Here’s the story as told through her poem, that starts out about her sitting at a railroad crossing pondering her purpose in life and suicide. Then, giving herself permission to live!  Your brief mission: watch her video story before you leave this post.

U.S. Air Force vet and trainer of companion dogs for vets, De’ has found incredible support and mentoring with her business family.

of change from contemplating death to helping change the lives of others.

If you don’t have speakers or can not watch the video here is the poem she wrote, which she also shares in the video:

Transparency

by De’ Parker

I come from a household where I looked just like the man that cheat, beat and walked out on my mother. My mother’s favorite child was my brother.

I was the daily reminder of my mothers broken dreams. I received the retaliation my father wasn’t there to receive, so I joined the Air Force. Not to serve my country, but to run away and hide. But 8 years later I learned that at least 18% of combat vets die by suicide. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a silent yet effective assassin.

And I’m not sure if you remember memorial day weekend 2011.  But let me tell you what happened directly before you happened to call.

I had deliberately, calmly and purposely decided I would fall. Research had revealed that the train track barrier where 91st Avenue meets Grand had a 3 second delay.

First I would have a conversation with God, then I would be on my way. I was broken, shattered, tattered and every other word you could use to describe beyond hope. So I prayed in the parking lot of Home Depot:

“God you created the world in 7 days, if you wanted to you could save my life. I’m 26. I was suppose to already be Korie’s wife. So I’m willing to do things your way, I can change. I’m willing to give up. I will never question the orders if you just send me someone who can teach me what to do.”

My phone rang and it was you.

You said you were having a little cookout with some of your mentors and you wanted me to meet them because they changed your life. Probably saved it.

I realized that in my darkest hour I asked God for a way out and he gave you. You took me from an immature girl to a young lady. I went from a life with no hope to a small glimpse of maybe. From a small glimpse of maybe to having hopes and dreams.

Suicide thoughts and low self-esteem turned into undefeatable, just look at my team. You taught me to make peace with my past so that my future happiness could last. You tailored me into getting Korie back. Come to find out he still adored me.

I know I say I want to be like you all the time. I mean more than the kindness, the communication, entertainment and all that you have to give. I mean I want to be so inspirational people give themselves permission to live.

Call to Action

March 19, 2016 by Terry Kohler

We have reached a crisis point with the Protectors of Liberty and Freedom our Veterans and their families. We need your help with this mission.

trumpeter Navy Veteran

The VA’s focus on psychotropic drugs is one of the leading causes of the 22-30 daily Veteran suicides. Suicide ideation is one of the effects of these drugs along with heart, kidney, thyroid and liver damage. Ask yourself, why would anyone prescribe 5-25 drugs daily for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) when there are drug-free alternatives? Albert Einstein said it best when he defined Insanity; doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Team Veteran is creating sustainable funds to support Veteran organizations that focus on Integrated medical treatments for PTS and TBI such as equine therapy, service animals, guide dogs, HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy), meditation and aromatherapy to name a few. The VA will not pay for these alternative treatments because they are outside their agenda.

We support other Veteran charities that recognize the Team Veteran motto “The First Cost of Freedom is Supporting Our Veterans”. Albert Einstein said it best when he defined Insanity; doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The current method of raising these funds is to Beg, (AKA solicit donations) which means a large portion of the money raised goes to the fundraiser.

To create the larger donations required for the sustainable funding for these charities, Team Veteran decided to utilize LegalShield and IDShield, two employee benefits that are commission-based products. The same products endorsed by Morgan Wright, a Cyber-Security Analyst, interviewed on Fox News Live regarding medical identity theft.

You’ve seen and heard LifeLock advertised on TV and radio (Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh), this comparison quickly shows the difference between LifeLock and IDShield. If you purchase IDShield and or LegalShield through Team Veteran you will also be helping to create sustainable funding to support Veteran and 1st Responder charities. There is also a small business legal plan available for companies with less than 100 employees.

CALL TO ACTION: Will you join us and together we will create sustainable funds to support Veteran charities nationwide? Any questions please call 602-561-7805, or fill out this contact form

Very Respectfully,
Team Veteran

Added the .org to a copy of the Team Veteran logo.  Allowing TVet logo to be used stand alone yet give the url of the web site.  Also added Gordon Brown’s mantra “The First Cost of Freedom is Supporting Our Veterans”.  As true today as it was the day he first spoke those words.
